Social science subjects offer a wonderful range of topics. We challenge students with complex questions and difficult writing assignments to get them to analyze beyond just names, dates and numbers. These diverse subjects are about coming up with sustainable solutions all the while trying to identify motives. Below we have detailed just a few of our most requested subjects. History

Learning about history shows what happened, what worked and, oftentimes, what did not. To build a better, inclusive and sustainable future, students need to know what happened in the past. Subjects, such as American history, European history, East Asian history, South American history, African history and world history, to name a few, teach students about cultures and societies. Students must research credible sources, including primary and secondary sources. Shrewd research engages with multiple, and even opposing, perspectives.

Human Geography

Human geography, especially Advanced Placement (AP) Human Geography, is gaining more and more popularity among our high school students. We even teach human geography to some of our undergraduate students. This subject is neither merely about naming countries and regions, nor just about remembering where people live. We teach students to think beyond physical borders and social constructs to really understand push and pull factors, including war, famine, natural disasters, jobs, education and political unrest.

Sustainability Coursework

Building a sustainable world is very difficult. Poverty, food waste, climate change, water pollution, diseases, education inequality, gender discrimination and infrastructure innovation are just a few of the pressing problems we must resolve together. Besides teaching sustainability classes, our team regularly volunteers in communities as part of our Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives, develops Sustainability Project Competitions (SPCs) for high school students, and develops Presidio Impact projects to support impoverished children and the homeless.

Business Leadership and Entrepreneurship

Creating that one, game-changing business idea is incredibly challenging. Many companies may have similar business models, ideas and resources. Markets are highly competitive, rival businesses have daunting financial resources, and new technology seems to put veteran companies out of business. But more than just generating revenue, we teach our students how to build sustainable businesses. If money is the only goal students strive towards, they will miss out on limitless potential to build something truly worthwhile.
